This leaflet is for overseas trained teachers (OTTs), i.e. those who have qualified as teachers in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. It applies to those who teach in state maintained schools or non-maintained special schools in England. It is intended to make the legal position clear so that schools, local authorities, employment agencies and other bodies will make it available to all newly appointed OTTs immediately on taking up teaching posts. RAGU in conjunction with advice-resources has produced a new comprehensive guide for refugees and asylum seekers on education, training and employment. The guide is for refugees and asylum seekers living in England and Wales. This is also available in nine refugee community languages - Arabic, Farsi, French, Kurdish Sorani, Pashto, Somali, Turkish, Tigrinian and Urdu and can be downloaded from the website. [October 2007]
Jobs in education: A guide for refugees (PDF)
The Refugee Teachers Task Force has produced a guide for refugees who want to work in education. The guide provides an introduction to the education system in the United Kingdom; an examination of different paths towards becoming recognised as a qualified teacher; some advice on how to access courses, support and guidance. It is aimed at refugee teachers and other refugee professionals as well as agencies and professionals involved in advising and supporting refugees. [March 2007]

This guide produced by RAGU (Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit) is for those advising adult refugees and asylum seekers (over 16 years) living in England. Its focus is on information, advice and guidance for education, training, volunteering and employment. It also touches on other issues that will have an impact on education, training and employment. This guide is written by Baden Prince, RETAS adviser for Education Action and provides an overview of the teaching profession in the UK and information on opportunities for teaching in different sectors within the education system in the UK. It covers the issues involved in requalification. This is of particular relevance for those who wish to teach in state schools. Routes Into employment for overseas trained teachers (PDF)
This toolkit has been produced with the support of the Leicestershire Learning Skills Council (LLSC) and it the product of the work of a number of organisations based in Leicester. These organisations include Highfields Youth and Community Centre, Overseas Qualification Development Programme, Refugee Employment Project, Employment Initiatives Team at the Leicester City Council, and Leicester College. This toolkit can be used by individuals and organisations that advise overseas-qualified teachers and help them into employment.

Teachers TV
Teachers TV is a free-to-air channel available on digital satellite and digital cable television 24 hours a day, seven days a week and on Freeview from 4-5pm daily. The interactive website also offers a variety of videos focusing on different aspects of teaching such as key stages, subjects, roles and whole school issues.
