Access to Further Education and English Language (ESOL)
English language proficiency is central to refugee teachers requalifying to teach in the UK. The changes in LSC funding have impacted on asylum seekers and refugees being able to access provision. RiT is contributing to the Refugee Council’s wider policy work on ESOL, feeding into national fora and policy development. This policy paper outlines the case for refugees as a priority group. The guidance for advisers provides clear information on current eligibility and fee remission. [November 2007]
Four year teaching opportunity (PDF)
If you trained as a teacher outside of the UK then you may be able to work for up to four years in England as a teacher. The four year rule is intended to allow overseas trained teachers to qualify to teach in maintained and non-maintained schools in England through Employment Based Routes to QTS. [May 2007]
Employment based routes (PDF)
The length of employment based training depends on your experience and skills, but will be a minimum of one term. Employment based routes allow you to work as a teacher under the 4 year rule and train to QTS at the same time. [May 2007]
