SMILE homework club - looking for volunteers

The SMILE project has a new homework club starting in London in March 2010. They are currently looking for volunteers who want to help refugee and asylum seeking children succeed in education.

The SMILE project (Supporting and Mentoring in Learning and Education) is a Refugee Council project that recruits volunteers to support refugee and asylum seeking children. One of the aims of the project is to help children to access and be successful in their education.

To help this, they are setting up a homework club at the Refugee Council offices in Brixton. This will run every Tuesday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience of group work with children, and you will assist with homework, run group exercises and provide personalised support to a small group. Refugee Council also provides training on child protection and other issues, which are very important for working with children inside and outside of a school environment.

The club runs weekly, and you should be able to attend each week for a minimum of 3 months.

Further information is attached below, and if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact Matthew or Arnaud on the details below.
