Engaging Local Authorities
Refugees into Teaching would like Local Authories to get involved with the project, helping us contact schools, as well as improving the services we offer refugee teachers
We need the help of Local Authorities to tell more people about the project and its services, and to work with us to improve the services we can offer refugee teachers. LAs can do this by:
- Disseminating project information to school links in your area
- Advertising teaching and wider workforce positions through our networks
- Encouraging your schools to offer our teachers voluntary school experience
- Partnering with us to run information events in your area
- Promoting our mentoring scheme – encouraging current teachers to become mentors for our teachers
- Linking us to BME and other networks in your area
What we offer
We work with a range of different teachers who are often:
- Experienced primary and secondary teachers with overseas teaching experience, often in shortage STEM subjects
- Speakers of community languages
- From Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan and a variety of other countries
- Highly motivated, committed individuals with full rights to work in the UK long term – who don’t fall under the Points Based System (PBS)
They are often looking for voluntary experience, so we have a group of highly experienced teachers offering free classroom support to help schools.
We work with teachers in each region across England.
RiT is part of the Refugee Council, a human rights charity, and we have a wealth of experience with the rights and entitlements of refugees and asylum seekers. We are happy to deal with any queries you may have in this area – call is on 020 7346 1167.
